GetSet Transylvania is a collaboration of more than 22 organizations in Transylvania County that work to improve the lives children and families. The collaboration began with a stakeholder meeting hosted by county government in 2015. As a result, the Early Childhood Initiative (ECI) was formed. In late 2015, their State of the Young Child Report provided a data-informed road map of the issues children and families face in Transylvania County. In 2018, GetSet was the first rural community nationwide to partner with Sesame Workshop’s Sesame Street in Communities. The following year, GetSet was recognized with a Best in Category Achievement Award for Children and Youth Programs from the National Association of Counties (NACo).
The Family Toolkits are a partnership between Sesame Street In Communities and GetSet Transylvania and are designed to give families of children (ages 0-5) some fun, free resources on a range of topics from health to early education. The toolkits highlight age-appropriate activities and opportunities in Transylvania County that are engaging for youngsters and their families.
After registering to receive toolkits on the GetSet Transylvania website, families receive a notice when a new kit is available for pick up from a designated location. Families have one week to pick up their toolkit.
